Re: [Sheflug] Antivirus

I know Linux as an OS is less susceptible to viruses etc but user data on a
Linux server is still delete able by rogue scripts or macros (I may be wrong
on this) and infected mails or files can be forwarded on unknowingly by a
user on a Linux PC. For desktop use losing data is worse than losing the OS
as at least the OS can be rebuilt from the CDs (OK data should be backed up
as well but users don't always do that). I currently use "free for personal
use" AV Guard package from Grisoft on my other OS which checks incoming and
outgoing mail as well as files on disk. Is there an equivalent free virus
checker for Linux?

I'm using AntiVir on my FreeBSD server, there's a Linux version available. It can be obtained from http://www.hbedv.com/

Sophos (www.sophos.com) and Kaspersky (www.kaspersky.co.uk) can also offer anti-virus solutions, but I'm not sure if they have free offerings.

There's also vfind which is available from www.cyber.com - I think that's a paid for offering, but both vfind and Kaspersky are one off charges and if you are intending to run virus scanning for multiple users, might be the cheapest to consider in terms of a commercial package.
