Dear Nicola,

The person you need to speak to in CICS is Ian Belton (23043 i.j.belton [at] shef)

Assuming this printer belongs to your dept and isn't actually somebody else's,
CICS is only administering it for you and they disable all unnecessary services
by default for security. It's perfectly possible for Ian to enable the TCP/IP if
he's requested to do so by the person who asked him to set it up in the first place.
This will be the same person who tells Ian the userID's of the people who are
allowed to print to it - probably your dept computer rep or the guy who paid
for the printer.

I know it's possible because we have one which has been thus enabled
and we print to it happily from RedHat. I set it up easily using good old printtool,
which works fine for all my network printers so I've not yet had to deal with
the famous CUPS.

If you need any help call me.

Cheers, Jan White (22741 jan.white [at] shef)
