Though we have had LTSP working on 33MHz 486s, unless you have been around
for too long in this game then fiddling about with ISA, interrupts and the
like becomes an intellectual challenge rather than a practical proposition.
We have decided that PCI bus, Pentium class machines with about 32M RAM give
useful performance, with SVGA monitors / video (min 1Mb video memory) or
better required - also much better from a sysadmin viewpoint if all the
hardware is similar spec.
PCs need network cards (RJ45 style), preferably with boot EPROM socket.
We have quite a few machines at present with no monitors - the ones we
aquired were not really worthwhile using. Anything up to about 4 years old
should be useful.
