[Sheflug] Spamassassin - success story

Phew!

I've just been reviewing the effects of implementing Spamassassin on my
Courier setup at home and it looks like it's surprisingly all working
well!

For the record, I've got a broadband connection (using IPCop and an
Alcatel frog), getting mail from my old ISP (not who my broadband's
with) using fetchmail, delivering into Courier, then using maildrop to
execute spamassassin before handing back to Courier for delivery into a
maildir. I retrieve mail whilst at work using IMAP.

The final part of the plan will be to switch Turnpike on my Win2k
desktop at home to collect via POP3 from the Courier server instead of
direct from my ISP (which it does now) and configure fetchmail to not
leave the messages on Demon's server.

I've had my Demon address years - going back to the olden days when they
only had around six POPs and one of them was in Sheffield - and the
email address has been on web sites for years. Consequently, I get
around 200 messages a day, around 180 of which are spam of one form or
another. If I wasn't so attached to the demon address, I'd probably
leave, but so many people know me by that address so...
