Highpoint RocketRAID 133 card
I understand this is a 2-channel hardware RAID card, probably the
cheapest on the market. I only need 2 channels though.

Because it is only an ide controller with software raid support .
I thought it was hardware based because the disk configuration is done independently of the operating system? When I added a second drive to my system, it asked me if I wanted to rebuild the RAID1 array from within the RAID BIOS.

Anyone know if it will work with SuSE Linux? [some people claim it will]

Dunno.

Yes, it does, wonderfully so.

Do I have any chance of keeping my disks as they are and moving them
onto the new controller?

Probably not ;)
I think that depends on how the existing RAID is configured up. I'm using a Promise onboard controller but haven't switched the drives between that and my Highpoints - I know when I've switched between DPT and Adaptec SCSI controllers before I've had no choice but to reinstall.

If you have a third drive of suitable size, maybe you could move a single drive over and see if you are able to rebuild the array from the already populated drive, which would answer the question in a non-destructive way?

P.S. The thing I did like about the Promise onboard is that you can mod the RAID BIOS and instead of having striping only, you get access to the full RAID modes, took me about 20 minutes including locating suitable insutructions.
