I did have IRDA working at one point on Debian but now I have have moved
to Bluetooth. I think that the T610 has support and you can pick up usb
adapters for very little. I got a giga-byte from scan for about 30 GBP.
I then use multisync to backup and also sync with evoltion. And Gnome
phone manager to do SMS. The advantage is that you don't have to have
the phone in line of sight. You can have the phone in your bag rather
than trying to balance it on your knee and get the IRDA lined up.
I have yet to setup the Internet access but from what I have read it
should not be to difficult, at worst you can set it up to emulate a
serial connection to the phone then use standard PPP.
Have a look at the following sites from some inspiration
Bluez - The linux bluetooth stack - http://bluez.sourceforge.net/
Gnome Phone Manager - http://usefulinc.com/software/phonemgr
Multisync - http://multisync.sourceforge.net/
As a aside the Gnome Phone Manager now includes support for Dashboard,
http://www.nat.org/dashboard/ , so that as an SMS comes in it can grab
all the relevant information about that number that you have, address,
recent emails, website, recent jabber chats etc.
Hows the T610 going, I have a T68i at the moment and was thinking of
upgrading. What is the quality of the photos like?
