I don't think editing them manually is recommended. Using crontab -e (or
some other tool) probably sends a -HUP to the cron daemon to tell it to
re-read the config files. A manual edit won't do this unless cron checks
timestamps. It may do - I don't know.

The files are in /var/spool/cron/tabs on my SuSE 8.0
