RE: [Sheflug] printer for photo's

HP's latest 5150 comes in at about £70 and is recommended by PC Pro.
I've not checked the HP site to see if it supports smaller paper sizes and
I've no experience of using it with Linux so I can't recommend it directly
for your situation but you should still check out at

or read the text below:
However I tend to think that unless you are doing loads of prints or you
can't get into town then going to a photoshop (or even some supermarkets (eg
Asda and Rotherham) cuts out the cost of buying the printer and replacing
the ink.

HP Deskjet 5150 [PC Pro]
COMPANY: Hewlett - Packard
PRICE: £69 (£81 inc VAT. Delivery £4 £5 inc VAT)
RATING: ISSUE: 107 DATE: Sep 03
VERDICT: A phenomenal printer for the price, with all-round quality matched
with respectable speeds. Add borderless photos and it's near-impossible to
resist.
VIEW SPECIFICATIONS
The price isn't a typo. The Deskjet 5150 can be yours for just £69, yet
includes borderless A4 photo printing, a decent turn of pace and, most
importantly, excellent all-round print quality.
This was immediately obvious when we started testing. The 5150 completed our
text document test at a respectable 4ppm and the characters were crisp and
finished in a rich black. If speed is of the essence, take heart from the
15.4ppm it managed in draft mode - what's more, text is still easy to read.
The 5150 is capable rather than exceptional when it comes to printing
graphics onto plain paper, but if you need top quality simply switch to HP's
heavyweight paper. At best settings, it produced superb photos and
impeccable reversed text - both potential hiccups. The only problem was the
five-and-a-half-minute wait.
If you want to print occasional photos, the Deskjet should once again
delight. After just over five minutes, a detailed printout dropped onto the
output tray. This isn't to say it's perfect - skin tones aren't spot on, and
if you look carefully you can see the paper feed mechanism's telltale trail.
Fortunately, you can get superb skin tones by buying the photo cartridge for
£18. This adds three more colours to the mix and, combined with HP's own
Premium Plus photo paper, it promises 75 years' lightfastness under glass.
The 5150 took just six minutes to produce our borderless A4 photo, and if
you just want a borderless 6 x 4in print expect to wait around two minutes.
There are some other nice touches too. For starters, this is an easy printer
to use - we had to press only two buttons in the whole installation process.
HP's printer driver is just as simple to negotiate, and special mention goes
to the built-in red-eye removal feature.
Although the 5150's running costs are merely average, once you consider its
quiet printing, 150-sheet input tray and attractive styling, this latest
Deskjet is undoubtedly HP's biggest bargain yet.
