I'll add an "eh?" to that too.

My broadband provider (http://www.country-broadband.co.uk/) have a
leased line to Demon and pings work just fine.

Of course, this might be different to *DSL setups, but blocking ping
seems pretty stupid.
This is from a Zen *DSL account:

-su-2.05b# ping www.demon.net
PING www.demon.net (194.159.254.213): 56 data bytes
^C
--- www.demon.net ping statistics ---
7 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss

Using mtr it appears the block is beyond suarez-so-0-0-0.te.zen.net.uk, which seems to be the last host on the zen network, based on looking at other hosts I can ping to.

Regards,

Jonathan
