    It is superb for compilation. If you have to compile 1000 files,
you can usually compile (gcc -c) most of them independently, and all
those compilation runs can be easily migrated. I guess that what
you're saying is that your processes are short-lived, and in this
case, the network latency/general overhead makes openmosix think twice
about migrating a process.

    I seem to remember that OpenMosix came around as a way to have
people doing programming labs efficiently (thin-client->compilation
servers scenario).

    Good luck with distcc. I've never used it before (my compiles are
short), but the results page quoted some formidable speed
improvements.
