I would look a little further afield personally. Gentoo is used in many
production servers now. Slackware is a great and very mature server
product too. Then there is Debian of course. Some of the BSDs look very
interesting too.
Can't remember with Slackware, but Debian has apt-get and Gentoo has
Portage which are both great for virtually automating the update
process. Neither have subscriptions and you can just download the ISOs
from the Internet. May be try a couple of the contenders on a test
server before full deployment to ensure all software works.
I was quite shocked to see Red Hat discontinuing support of all existing
product lines so abruptly. It seems like a very bad move to me... If you
need RPM there are several Red Hat based distros around too.
