Well, according to RedHat CEO Linux is not ready for a home users yet:

In my opinion it should be read: "Redhat linux is not ready for home users".
Because there is always SuSE which does exactly what Redhat doesn't in terms
of painless migration from Windows and support hot-plug devices.
If you intent to stick with Redhat as desktop fedora project is away to go.
It performs much better then Redhat 9 (latest ntpl kernel) and somehow
superior to it.
As a matter of fact you don't have much choice - fedora is only free version
of Redhat left.
