Re: [Sheflug] Guide to setting up DNS server

I agree with you Alex.
It took me some time to learn the ins and outs of BIND but its really not that difficult once you know how the various pieces fit together.
I've tried Dan Bernstein's DJBDNS and although it's reasonably easy to configure I found it a real pain to compile and install. I also had a headache removing it when I decided to go back to the more familiar (to me) BIND.

BIND 8 certainy had some fairly major secury holes in it but I don't know of any in newer versions?
(i'm sure someone will correct me on that!)

My advice is learn how DNS works first and then try BIND before you take the Bernstein plunge...

Cheers,

Andy.

You're looking in the wrong places then - bind 9 is well easy. Don't be
put off by the jargon; you need to understand it but it's simple. I
would advise you to stick with bind9 and do a proper job too, you may
need the facilities of a real DNS server in the future (replicating to
other offices? Dynamic DHCP? Etc..).
