Do you have access to the Cisco router, howabout a show int fastethernet
0/0 (or 0/1) on the cisco router; does it show the errors.
What are the duplex/speed settings of the Cisco router?
Try forcing from 10Mb half duplex both ends (or on the Linux box if that
is all you control) and see if the erros stop.

Make sure you aren't confusing 2Mbytes against 10 Mbits; and not
expecting more than the WAN link can support (think about encapsulation
and fragmentation).

That's the first instant thoughts after a long day at work.
