This is possibly a bit off-the-wall, but have you looked at trying a
wireless mouse mechanism? You can get them separately (ie., things that
you could plug a mouse into), and this might work in this scenario.
However, I don't know whether or not these links are bi-directional: I
don't imagine you send much data to a mouse, but I seem to recall it
being possible so I would hope it's just a bi-directional serial link.
So, coupled with a PS2->D9 connector this might be just the job - it
also means you don't have to play with the blobby bluetooth software (I
have two dongles myself - the 100M class 2 devices), and while it's
useful it's a pain to setup.
Might also be looking at the usual suspects (Maplin, CPC, Farnell) for
something like this:
