Probably doesn't have to be bluetooth for this job. I am a bit too busy to 
look myself at the moment, but try looking for short range wireless modems in 
the unlicensed rf bands such as 433Mhz. Was talking to some chip 
manufacturers the other day & the chipsets are only a few pounds - much less 
than bluetooth at present.
