The KDE project has a number of tutorials on
<http://developer.kde.org/documentation/tutorials/>. Mind you, KDE is
C++-based, not C.
After some digging around, I have found that learning Python is a
worthy cause. There is plenty of information on the web on python. A
book on how to use Python with QT (quite nice) is to be found on
<http://www.xs4all.nl/~bsarempt/python/book.html>.
If you are into Pascal, you might want to use fpc to creat
spiffy-looking apps that use the GTK toolkit:
