If you don't need the ability to work away from the mains its almost getting
cheaper to buy a desktop PC (~£200) a TFT (~£150) screen and a "lan party"
carry case. It might cost a bit more but the bits will all be up to date
and are much more likely to be supported by Linux. You also get the
advantage that not only will it be a higher spec but you can upgrade it a
lot more cheaply too. Of course if you are not wanting to to graphics or
audio work then a basic laptop may suffice and is much more convenient.
