Is there a FAQ of local users' experience with Broadband/ADSL providers in
the Sheff area? Any to avoid like the plague?

I presume you can get broadband from Telewest in Sheffield as one of my
friends uses them.
I'm in Rotherham and i'm on 2mbs with them and they're fine although it's
£50 per month!
I could be wrong but i think it's the fastest broadband currently available
from anyone. Most suppliers of broadband are still on 512kbs.

I personaly believe cable is the best broadband available as it's the most
compatible with other hardware such as game's consoles (Xbox, PS2, etc),
which can also use various Linux distro's.

I'd have to agree on this one.

I have the 2Mb service also, and have had no problems with it at all, aside
from one occassion when third party contractors decided to cut through the
fibre cables supplying a large number of Blueyonder users.

£50 a month may sound a little steep, but maybe not so when you look at what
some providers charge just for the 512k service.

The Blueyonder email servers have had a couple of major spam attacks in the
past resulting in some minor email outages, but that seems to have been
sorted.

When I first looked for broadband, one thing I did was to look over the
status pages for each of the providers, to see what problems they had
encountered in the service, how frequent they were and how quickly they had
been resolved.

And when you want to download huge files such as ISO images, 2Mb is just
great :)

Steve.
