Speaking as an employer, if a CV landed on my desk that required that I
reboot my desktop to view it, I'd boot the CV (rather than reboot the
PC). It reminds me of a business card attachment I had the misfortune to
receive recently. The business card was a flash animation which included
the mugshot of the sender. It was 210k. It was also standard for the
company in question a Docklands IT support company to use this on all
their emails.

There's a time and a place for most technology, but I don't think that's
it in this case.

Is there a Linux equivalent to Windows autorun anywhere? Would that be a
better solution (in a vain attempt to get on-topic).

As an alternative to flash, have you considered something like SMIL? I
don't know what Linux browser support for SMIL is like though. I've
certainly used it with IE5.5
