RE: [Sheflug] Kernels, gcc and Alcatel modems
David
many thanks for your reply.
I decided to take things step by step
and am only slightly thoroughly confused :).
I downloaded the speedbundle from
http://linux-usb.sourceforge.net/SpeedTouch
and the firmware.
Eveentually, after editing chap_secrets and pap_secrets, and making sure I
had the firmware
in the right place everything compiled, but with an awful lot of warnings
about poor pointer types
and that sort of thing.
This is on 2.4.20 btw using gcc 3.3 (I didn't do the upgrades yet).
The Alcatel is sitting there with green lights. I have rebooted. I have
managed to recover my dial up access
via a different isp but I cannot fire up an internet connection via the
Alcatel.
Any pointers anyone?

4. Does anyone have any experience of setting up the Alcatel=20
Speedtouch 330 under a given kernel? Have read > the=20
http://linux-usb.sourceforge.net/SpeedTouch/ site and am=20
aware of some firmware that may need to be put to the modem=20
(KQD6P2.eni). Does this still have to be done under 2.4.2x=20
(x >=3D2) and are the results good or bad?
I can't answer any of the other stuff, but my understanding is that
regardless of the OS, you'll still need the firmware download to the
modem. I use a Linux firewall (IPCop) on my home LAN and a Speedtouch
modem. Part of the setup of IPCop for the Alcatel stingray is the upload
of mgmt.o (one of several names) to the firewall so it is able to
control the download to the modem on reinitialisation.
Compliments of the season,
