This is the Linksys WRT 54G. It runs a custom version of Linux as its OS and
other gpl software [ http://www.linksys.com/support/gpl.asp ]and there is a
custom version of its flash from

This is a prism chipset card, the pci equivalent is the MA311
There is a list of many cards and there chipsets at
http://www.linux-wlan.org/docs/wlan_adapters.html
Anything that says Prism 2/2.5/3 or Orinoco is OK in Linux with the wlan-ng or
orinoco drivers ( in fact the later orinoco driver will drive both see
http://www.hpl.hp.com/personal/Jean_Tourrilhes/Linux/Tools.html
If you get an atmel or atheros card you'll need to get the drivers
http://sourceforge.net/projects/madwifi
http://atmelwlandriver.sourceforge.net/news.html
I've no experience on these though. Anything that says a TI chipset should
be be avoided from the reports I've heard.

Which is a pity cos maplin have binatone pcmcia cards for £12.99. No probs if
you are running a less open os.
