    As usual with Linux, you're spoilt for choice :-) You could try
Vector Linux, a distribution aimed at that sort of hardware. It is
responsive and fast. I don't know what WM they use (I can't remember),
but you can do as the others have pointed out: icewm, xfce,
blackbox... However, I would still try to get some extra memory in,
specially if you want to run OOo (my version, with a simple 3 page
document takes up some 55 Mb).

    Of course, you might want to teach your sister the true path, and
install LaTeX, LyX or Texmacs :-))))
