Given a) each PC has an output mixer (& hence volume control) and b)
sliders are far and away the most expensive part of a mixer (and you
need eight - a stereo slider is just two joined together for obvious
reasons), why not go for a fixed mixer, and use the PC controls to turn
the volume off when you don't want a particular PC in the mix?

I'm assuming you know the business-end of a soldering iron, although you
could probably punch-board it out. Connectors will be around 50p each,
resistors maybe 10p or something. An eight-channel Spirit mixer will set
you back about £200 I would imagine. That's going to be around two
orders of magnitude more expensive... ;)
Cheaply yours,
Alex.
