[Sheflug] IP Cop / Dans Guardian

OK Its listed as not supported but I thought I'd try here anyway.

Everything was working OK, then I installed Dans guardian on my fully
patched IPCOP 1.3 and it didn't go smoothly.  I went through the install
scripts and made sure the changes they were meant to make had been made and
all seems OK.  I installed the gui too but dans guardian is listed as
stopped on the web gui and if I click the "restart dans guardian" it doens't
start it.

ps aux | grep dan

shows three processes as dansguardian and if I do dansguardian restart from
/etc/rc.d/ is says "I seem to be running already".

if I run dgstatus is returns content in teh file /tmp/dg.tmp

Rebooting leaves it still the same.

2 things:

1) where should I start looking to see why its now listed as started
2) the PCs its protecting now won't access windows update.  Any ideas how I
can fix this?  I'm thinking the installation has blocked a port somewhere
that is needed for the update.
I've unblocked the .cab, .ini and .exe download blocking.
