[Sheflug] Internal modem com port setting

How can I test to see what com port my internal PCI modem is set at in my
linux box?
Is there a /dev/ file I can send some text to trigger the modem to respond
or can I telnet to it or something like that? How do I view the response?

I've seen it done under windblows on one of the properties tabs in system
manger and from telnet in windblows but I've not managed to find out how to
do so in Linux. Once I've got an internet connection how can I find out
what speed I'm connecting at? I want to set my firewall box home page as my
home page so that when I kick off a session on one of my PC and my IPCop
firewall dials up to the internet I get feedback of just how fast I'm
connected. If I know how to get the connection speed I should be able to
work out the script to put the speed on the web page. Is there any way of
telling how long the connection has been active or is it just a case of
writing a time to a file when the connection is made and comparing this with
the current time?
