[Sheflug] php script to list files and sub folders recursively

I've trawled php.net and google for a script allow me to chmod a folder and
its subfolders adn files and not got anywhere quickly.  Does anyone have any
pointers?

There do seem to be some php based file managers around but I'd prefer OS
and free (beer) is pretty important too.

Any hints appreciated

If not PHP code to recusively list files and I'll mod it to chmod them too.
