It turned out that the Dans guardian on the IP cop firewall does its own DNS
lookup and hence gets the wrong (ie current site) as it has to transparent
proxy in order to check the content before delivering it.  Changing the
hosts file on the firewall cured this issue.  Thanks to all who made
suggestions!
