I'm finding a few bits via google. Some people have no problems and some do. 
Using apic=force seems to work for some people and not for others. I'll try 
that + Matthews's idea on recompile. Meantime I'll keep looking, as I'll have 
to disconnect my existing monitor & keyboard from my current set up to try 
until I get another monitor & keyboard.
