[Sheflug] wireless engineery types

I can't remember where my notes from uni are so I'm hoping someone else can
help on this. Just bought a wireless router box and the antennae (sp?) are
removable. I have 2 questions

1) How long a bit of coax can I include between the router and the antennae
without getting silly drop off in performance?
2) Can I run the antennae to different ends of the house to increase
coverage or is there a reason for them being that particular distance apart?
3) Do Maplins do the coax and connectors (screw fit rather than bnc and a
bit smaller than network coax connectors)?

Thanks

PS Linux World Expo was good but INHO not as good as last year. The .org
village was a bit cramped in its layout which was a shame because there was
loads of unused floor space. Quite a few stands were things that were "just
an upgrade" from last year. Then again I suppose as last year was my first
visit everything was new. Many of the seminars were good. Didn't manage to
get to the debates though.
