[Sheflug] tablets and GIMP

Anyone had any luck using a graphics tablet under Linux?  I want to use mine
(Serial Aiptek 6000) with TheGIMP.  Currently looking at using TheGIMP
(which under Windows doesn't use the pressure input from the pen, but other
graphics packages do work with pressure) but I don't want to transfer it
over if the same problem happens under Linux.  Goolging suggests an issue
with GTK ignoring pressure but I couldn't find whether this affected Linux
as well as Windows or just windows.  Its not a major problem but now I know
it doesn't work its niggling me.
