[Sheflug] Linksys WRT54GS install session Saturday 18th 2004 1pm-3pm
There is going to be a install session of Linksys wrt54GS wireless access
points(1) at the New Roots cafe 86 Spital Hill, corner of Hallcar street,
Burngreave Sheffield.
The WRT54GS is an affordable(2) 200Mhz MIPS based WAP with 6MB of writable
flash and 32MB RAM. It runs Linux as its operating system, which makes it
highly customisable. There are several open source projects developing custom
firmware for them, including http://openwrt.org/
We're going to be installing openwrt on some of these and sharing some hints and
tips on building wireless network topologies, security, and porting and
packaging applications to them.
Feel free to come along and help out!
This also coincides with york lug doing an install day (3)
and having a linux presence at the community computer cafe (4) may help some
tortured windows users make the change!
