Are you saying you think it won't work, or have you actually tried
it?? :)

Here's why: the SysRq response is directly interpreted by the kernel. If
it's just a piece of software locking up (and X in particular can do a
very good impression of a machine that has hung), it will still get
through, even if they keyboard is otherwise "unresponsive". I believe it
causes an interrupt in a similar manner to Ctrl-Alt-Delete. So, if you
haven't tried it, I would.

You say you get mouse movement; that sounds like Linux probably hasn't
hung, and even more reason that the SysRq stuff would work.
