Ted, I had a similar problem. I have hda >suse9.1, hdb >ubuntu. Suse would
freeze up apart from very painfully slow mouse movements. I think (stress
think) the problem occured after hdb had been mounted for a short time e.g.
read/write access using suse to the ubuntu disk. Booting ubuntu gave no
problems. However after formatting and installing suse 9.2, on my hda root
partion, leaving my /home directory partion untouched, this problem
disappeared. However, file browser is now sometimes slow to list directory
contents. No other changes made to the machine. A suse9.1 issue perhaps? I
know this doesn't really answer the problem but I wanted to share my
experience.
1700 athlon, 512 memory.
