[Sheflug] The numbers don't add up/trying to install Fedora Linux Core 1

Hi
Wondered if anyone had any ideas for my email below?

Regards

Janet

Hi,

I dual boot with Windows 98 and RedHat 9.

Last night I tried to install Redora Linux Core 1.
See partition table below:
                 Type Size Start End
/dev/hda1 vfat 4863 1 620
/dev/hda2 /boot ext3 102 621 633
/dev/hda3 / ext3 2134 634 905
/dev/had4 extended 2385 634 937
/dev/hda5 /home ext3 2377 938 1240
/dev/hda6 swap 251 906 937
/dev/hdd
/dev/hdd1 /mnt/shared vfat 2014 1 1023

I got to the click to install to get

Disk space
You don't appear to have enough disk space to install the packages you've
selected. You need more space on the following file systems:
Mount Point Space needed
 / 103M

I had the packages offered with personal desktop and KDE as extra. Total
instal size 1,961M with KDE Desktop and 1,859M without the KDE.

So I started all over again. I presumed because the partitioning I used
before with RedHat9 I would use that.

See partition table below:
                 Type Size Start End
/dev/hda1 vfat 4863 1 620
/dev/hda2 /boot ext3 102 621 633
/dev/hda3 / ext3 2141 634 906
/dev/had4 extended 2620 907 1240
/dev/hda5 /home ext3 2102 907 1174
/dev/hda6 swap 518 1175 1240
/dev/hdd
/dev/hdd1 /mnt/shared vfat 2014 1 1023

I got the message:
Disk space
You don't appear to have enough disk space to install the packages you've
selected. You need more space on the following file systems:
Mount Point Space needed
 / 160M

I switched it off and went to bed. Today I reinstalled RedHat 9, extra
package KDE, total install size 1,791M.

So of course I need more space. I'm not quite sure where as the second
partitioning increased the / by 7.

An explanation of what I need to make bigger and why, would be of great
help. Forgive me in advance if I don't understand the why.

Regards

Janet
