Re: [Sheflug] OpenOffice 2.0

I understand that the key feature of OOo 2.0 which 1.x doesn't have is the "OObase" application - which is a database frontend along the lines of Micr***ft Access. (Ooops, nearly swore!)

I'm absolutely itching to try this out - yes, I know there are all sorts of clever ways to set up databases with Linux, using PHP, MySQL and so on, but not ways that regular, "we don't touch the commmand line" office staff can handle. I really hope that OObase does the job.

Best,

James

Anyone out there using OpenOffice 2.0 beta ? Was hoping to get some feedback with a view to making up some OOooOO 2.0 CDs for the May 7th meeting.

Yeah, I'm using the Ubuntu packages.

A bit crashy, but otherwise pretty good - interface is vastly improved,
MS Word file compatibility is much better too (even down to the font
support - documents written in Arial, for example, now seem to wrap
correctly on my system, so documents now paginate like they do in Word).

Definitely worth trying if you can install it alongside OOo1.1 (as you
can in Ubuntu) - note that the OOo file formats have changed in this
release though.

Cheers,

Alex.
