Thanks for the advice Gary; I'm now sorted.  php, mysql etc were all
installed from the FC3 dvd along with everything else, and php-gd hadn't
been included.  I'd been fine with FC2 which I'm sure did include php-gd
as part of a standard installation.  The php-gd rpm installed with no
problems once I know I needed it, although I go weak at the knees at the
thought of installing software on Linux.  It's not usually as
straightforward as this.
