At times like this I like to think of a line written by Bertolt Brecht: "The

As I understand it the commission has now 'washed its hands' of the matter and 
is leaving it to the nation states to decide how to handle software patents. 
Given, that some nations in Europe already have in essence got them, perhaps 
the rest are open to being picked off. Much like the open skies situation.
