It's short for 'visual'. A visual text editor is one that displays the file on 
the screen and allows you to move up and down it with the keyboard and edit 
it. This is how every modern (post 1970s) text editor works.
If you're feeling brave and want to see what text editors were like before 
they were visual, type 'ex'.
