Well, first off, does it print any other type of image such as .png or .gif ?

My HP 720C prints images OK so it is not the printer itself that cannot cope 
with images. (Although it is SLOW taking 30+ seconds to do a colour 
spreadsheet page). The print quality is not wonderful unless you are using 
glossy paper, but it is very cheap to run.
Can you try making a document with a few words in colour. Does this print out?
The reason for asking this last question is that I had a batch of old 
cartridges and all the colour ones failed to work.

Can you tell us what distro and window manager you are using?
ie are you running mandriva and KDE or Ubuntu and Gnome or Suse and WM etc?
This will give us an idea of what printer manager you are usig to configure 
the printer.
