[sheflug] Free VMWare Server and Player

Hi,

Now I can post I will try posting a useful message ;) Didn't know if you guys
had spotted that you can now get VMWare Player and VMWare Server for free
now. Player is a great version of VMWare for using virtual machines that have
already been made, but you cannot create new ones.

Server is the more recent release and it allows you to actually create new
virtual machines. Both the Linux and Windows versions are available for
download, and they also support 64 bit guests if you CPU does too. I am going
to make a Gentoo VM once I have freed up a little disk space with KDE 3.5.1
on it if anyone is interested.

This is great for open source developers as we can test stuff in sandboxes
that are easy to manage, and it gives you access to Windows in a nice little
padded cell should you need it for legacy applications etc.

Sign up page doesn't work in Konqueror, but it does in Firefox. You also need
to tell it you are in America, give it a state and a zip code due to a bug in
their signup code...

I will bring my laptop to the next meeting to show it off anyway. They both
work well here on amd64 Gentoo Linux systems.

Thanks,

Marcus
