Must watch out for your comments beginning 'hmm'. Thanks for the pointers - will revisit the drawing board and think again

I'm suggesting they get their own line. Am I naive in assuming that
because I can get a reliable broadband line at home that only goes
down when there's a powercut they should be able to do the same?
They're working on this. The plan is that this would be in addition to
their existing line

It seems where there's a will there's a way. There's a lot of will and
a strong head. Fingers crossed I can find a way
