Ok, I can explain it now - the TZ variable takes a slightly complicated
formatting:
alex [at] ubuntu ~ $ TZ=GMT0BST date
Tue Apr 18 14:42:58 BST 2006
alex [at] ubuntu ~ $ TZ=EST date
Tue Apr 18 08:43:02 EST 2006
alex [at] ubuntu ~ $ TZ=EST5EDT date
Tue Apr 18 09:43:05 EDT 2006
No, I don't know why, but daylight savings time always has to be
specified as a separate name. Why it needs the hours difference from UTC
I don't know either.
Cheers,
Alex.
