I hadn't heard of OpenWRT before, but following your pointer I see PPPoE 
referred to but not PPPoA. As I understand it, PPPoA is what is used in 
this country - certainly the two ADSL accounts I've had use it, and I think 
the cable system I had before those also used it.

Perhaps I haven't poked far enough into the documentation, but without PPPoA 
you're up a creek without a paddle.
