[sheflug] Installing (k)ubuntu 6.06

Hi peeps,

Question for those of you using (K)ubuntu. I'm looking at installing this
(well specifically Kubuntu) on the other half's machine in the next day or
two, but I've not found any decent documentation about the install process.

Essentially, I'm looking for information and detail about the partitioning
and disk selection - mostly for peace of mind as the last thing I want to
do is to blow away the XP install on there...

There are two disks:
/dev/hda, primary master, one partition, has XP
/dev/hdb, primary slave, one partition, contains backups

/dev/hdb is the sacrificial lamb; the disk has been burnt to CD so is now
free to be written over... so questions...

	1. Do I need to blat the partition table, or will the
	   install take care of that?

	2. What does it do about other disks in the system?
i.e., does it ignore them or does it try to do something
	   with them?

Neither the Ubuntu nor Kubuntu sites seem to have any information on the
actual install -- yes, I'm sure it's very easy, but having been burnt in
the past, I want to make absolutely sure before I install a dist I've not
actually touched before. Google doesn't help for docs, and of the ones I've
found, they assume you're installing onto a virgin system.

I have pondered unplugging /dev/hda to be /really/ sure :-) , but that
doesn't really help when it comes to putting in the boot partition -
although this could be relatively easily surmounted at the end of the
day :-)

Any pointers, advice, etc etc, welcome.

Cheers,

Chris...normally happy hacking away with Slack
