Have I missed something? Isn't Novell creating a filter to allow Open
Office to handle an open format document, and open sourcing the filter?
Isn't the biggest objection to MS office the proprietary format so that
everyone struggles to handle word documents with something other than
word? Is Word (as opposed to .doc) being proprietary cause for
objection? Isn't Novell (and MS, although under duress as far as I can
tell) doing something good by enabling open format(s) in Word? The only
objection that I can see is that MS defined their own open format rather
than go along with something more widely agreed, but is this that much
different to Adobe pdf? I suspect I might be about to trigger a lengthy
explanation about the problems of pdf!
