They also had a buggy bios which was prone to zap the board when doing a
'save settings and exit'.
The recommendation was to save settings and return to the menu then exit
without saving settings. All mine were rev 2.0 mobos.
The whole experience put me off nVidia / AMD for a while to such an
extent that my current Windows box and my home Linux server are both
Intel chipset boards and (touch wood) have been rock solid.

Thanks for the heads up about the A78NX. My experience of an early rev
A7V333 encouraged me to look for higher revision boards. I never had
problems with the A7V333 really - apart from the things that didn't work
because it was an early revision of course. But it generally booted up
ok whenever I needed to reboot or boot up although I generally left the
whole thing on.

I have yet to take the mobo CPU apart but my supposition is that it's
operator error that caused this loss. I put a new Speeze fan on in Feb
and a tad overloaded the CPU with thermal paste. Now I never took the
whole thing down to clean it up again and it's quite possible that
eventually caused the CPU to fry. Chickens roosting hmmmmmmm.

I have a 486 as firewall and a Celeron 500 toodling along quite happily.

Not sure what I'd buy for my next build - Intel's pricey but seems to
have longevity - AMD is popular because it's not Intel - though it did
grab the market lead on the 64s for a while.

I just hope this one stays going for a bit longer.

I got the AlCu one to try and avoid the CPU-crushing moments that have
been reported but the Zalman site does say take the fan off before you
move the box. I plan the workstation to stay sat where it is - well it
needs the side panel on and then it can go down onto the floor - but I
don't plan to lug it around anywhere soon.
