Thanks for the tip. That seems to have improved things generally (undo steps down from 100
 to 20). So far today FF has been down once (when looking at a site
 which does seem to be a fairly reliable trigger) and realplayer once. 

I'll have a go at the other suggestions as well, but I think I'll have
to try them one at a time and see what helps unless I can identify a
trigger
