I used the Speetouch first off, but forgot to get all the necessary code
in place after a system upgrade so left it behind for a DLink Ethernet
ADSL single port router - which was hell. It would stop DHCPing and
wouldn't accept some config changes I wanted to make.
So I upgraded to a ZyXel 650 and have been fine - except that I am now
trying to decide whether to go wireless on my ADSL router or have an
access point sitting in my network. The ZyXel allows telnetting in as
well as web access and it configures itself in the manner I ask. I'll
probably upgrade the router to cope with the higher speeds now possible
and then upgrade my ISP account to obtain the faster download speeds.
Essentially you want a device that has the ASDL telephony side and at
least one Ethernet port. You then need a NiC card on your box (
assuming you only have one box) - you can buy these for less than a
fiver. The Realtek chipset is ok.
The Speedtouch was provided by my ISP and they have never asked for it back.
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/109521/rb/25002895447 shows a wireless
ZyXel bundled together with a USB adapter to wireless up a suitable
laptop or box.
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/store/8/cat/Wired is the list of wired products
- there's routers splitters and NiCs in there.

But shop around - I think broadbandbuyer.co.uk was cheaper when I bought
the ZyXel.

L.
