It might have been partly Yorkshire Forward or other people of that
sort.

We've had a good idea like this in the pipeline and we used to have a
wireless network in places. The person who was taking me for my
Cisco CCNA Course last year used to run a wireless network at
Stannington and at other places around Sheffield. He was stitched up
by the local community and by the fact that after that the money was
withdrawn. He gave up. He's probably one of the more honest people
I've come across.

I took up the extinguished torch and over the course of a few years I
was carefully and deliberately trampled into the ground. I/We
decided that a move out to Dinnington to help the mining community
that was crushed by Thatcher would be more sensible. It was the best
decision. We all enjoyed working on it. If only we were allowed to
do that in Sheffield. Problems to do with building or running a
wireless network project in Sheffield included... 1/ Someone over
in Burngreave or Pitsmoor telling us what we are going to do or not
do. Usually involves guns or drugs. Someone was shot just last
night. 2/ A business team in Chesterfield who used to come to our
meetings stitched up the wireless proceedings. 3/ Access Space/Slug
Bug decided that they were "in charge" and they "knew everything" and
the local Consume Net project was something to do with this as well.
End result was disorganised chaos. 4/ Some others but the others
mentioned above were the real cause.

After all of this I had a quiet chat to the local police and left it
alone. Sometimes it's best to forget about it. I've been trying to
get the Google wireless person interested in Sheffield. A single
organisation that can offer a good wireless service at a cost of
nothing. But I'm not too hopeful of that working out either.
